Sailor Moon Toys & Merchandising - Title Graphic

An Introduction

Welcome to the www.kanegon.com Sailormoon toy site!

*** Sunday, August 11th, 2002 - I have placed a number of Sailor Moon items on the eBay auction web. There are nine Beauty Change Dolls, including Eternal Sailormoon and Sailor Saturn, and even the rare Henshin dolls are up for grabs. There are quite a few doll outfits, which come from the S, SuperS and Henshin collections. I'd wanted to list more, but ran short on time, so I'll have to continue at another time. Please don't ask which dolls I'll be selling, as I actually haven't decided yet. : )  I'm literally making up my mind as I go along. I do plan to list the gorgeous Principessa Serenity doll and the Italian Tuxedo Mask doll, so consider those your little sneak preview.

Back to the website introduction...

I was an avid Sailor Moon collector between 1994 and 1999, and the purpose of this site is to  share information about the many different Sailor Moon toys and products which were made available in Japan and around the world. When I started collecting Sailor Moon, I had no idea just how much was available. I was an action figure collector looking for a diversion, and I thought putting together a Sailor Moon collection would be easy. Five characters, five dolls, right? WRONG!!!

The truth is, there were new sets of Sailor Moon dolls made every year that the show aired in Japan, and even more dolls were available throughout Europe and North America. I wanted to create a site that collectors could browse through and refer to, to get a better understanding of the world of Sailor Moon toys. To point out stuff that they never even knew existed, and ultimately help collectors decide which items they want to try and find. Most of what is pictured here is from my personal collection, which I don't claim is either the biggest or the best. The primary focus of my collection is dolls, role-playing toys and figurines. The items shown on these pages may only equal 10% of the available Sailor Moon merchandise, but I've tried to show a diverse selection of products. I hope you find this stuff as interesting as I do. I've added my email link at the bottom of each page, so if you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to share them.

As I said above, I stopped collecting Sailor Moon toys sometime in 1999, at a time when I had just about everything I'd wanted, and the items I didn't have were out of the price range I was comfortable with. Irwin Toys was still producing Sailor Moon dolls at that time, and Bandai Japan have produced more 10" and 6" Sailor Moon dolls since that time. I don't have any of these later toys featured on this site.

The most common question I get is "where can I buy these toys?"

Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for that. I haven't looked for Sailor Moon toys in years. My collection came from numerous trips to the Chinatowns of Philadelphia and New York, from anime conventions, from an American friend in Japan who was kind enough to help me buy toys, and from Internet sites that went out of business long ago. Since the toys on this site were produced between 1992 and 1997, I can't imagine any store actually having any of these older toys in stock. My best suggestion is to watch auction sites such as www.eBay.com, where many collectors sell off pieces from their collections. There are literally hundreds of Sailor Moon dolls available at all times, and they sell for tiny fractions of what these dolls used to cost.

Current Doll Count is: 128

Please keep in mind that this site represents my personal collection.

Although I occasionally sell items on eBay, this site is note a store, and the items pictured on these pages are not for sale!

***  Special Offer  ***

After all of these years, it's good to see the Sailor Moon movies finally released in America! I'd personally like to see the rest of the episodes all the way through to the Stars series released, but I guess that may be asking too much.

Did you know that Sailor Moon was so popular in Japan that there were live action musicals produced every year?  It's true! With lavish costumes and elaborate dance numbers, all of the Sailor Scouts, as well as Tuxedo Mask, many popular villains and even a laser-light created Pegasus graced the stages of Japan. I have one of the stage productions, the "Musical Pretty Soldier Sailormoon SuperS" on laserdisc, and I'm offering VHS copies for sale. All of the dialogue in in Japanese, and there are no subtitles. Please understand, this is NOT a fansub. The cost is an even $15, which includes shipping within North America. What you get is a beautiful, sharp copy direct from the laserdisc. The entire stage show is included, plus backstage introductions with the cast members. The running time is 115 minutes - almost two full hours! Please email me if you're interested in obtaining a copy of the SuperS stage show.

It's time to start the tour. Each season of the Sailormoon series had a new name. The first season was Bishoujo Sensei Sailormoon. The second season, which was considered a sequel, was Sailormoon R. The third season was Sailormoon S, the fourth was Sailormoon SuperS, and the fifth and final season was Sailor Stars. Click on the titles below to see the toys made for each season of the series. The Mercury page is something I did to celebrate my 1000th hit for this site. If you like Mercury, you'll love this page. The links page will point you in the direction of other anime and Sailormoon related sites, and online anime stores that I have used. (Unfortunately, the links page is very out of date.)
