Remember, these toys are for display only, and are not for sale

Each figure in this beautiful trio stands 19 inches (48cm) tall! Only Super Sailor Moon, Venus and Mercury were made for this series, which is a bit odd since all five of the Inner Senshi were produced the previous year. These 19" Sailor Scouts are semi-posable. Their arms can be raised or lowered and their heads can turn. Each comes with her own wand and a display stand, though the two I own stand sturdily enough on their own. The Mercury and Venus figures look very similar, maybe even identical, to the R series figures. The Super Sailor Moon stands out thanks to the new costume. The scans below are from the back of the box. [¥9800]
Smaller, less detailed, and less expensive than the 19" figures. I've seen Sailormoon, Neptune, Uranus and Chibimoon (11" inches tall) but I'm not sure if the Inner Senshi were made. Chibi retailed for ¥3780, the others may have been slightly higher.
The S season of the anime added three new Sailor Scouts who came to be known as the "Outer Senshi": Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune & Sailor Pluto. Chibi-usa, aka "Rini" in the dubbed North American episodes, returned to the show during this season and made her debut as "Sailor Chibi-Moon."
Japan had another big year for Sailor Moon dolls. All new dolls of the five Inner Senshi, new Outer Senshi dolls of Pluto, Neptune & Uranus, plus the first dolls of Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Chibi-Moon premiered. These standard S series dolls retailed in Japan for ¥2980 yen each, unless listed otherwise below. School uniforms for Uranus and Neptune were sold seperately, and you can see Uranus' uniform below, under "Doll Clothes and Accessories."
** Collector's Note: These Japanese dolls do NOT have the character's name in English on the box. Only the Bandai Asia dolls have English names on the boxes. If someone is selling an S series doll that says "Sailor Neptune" on the box, and they're saying it's a Japanese doll, then that seller is misinformed. I have seen about 50 dolls sold on eBay that were misrepresented as being Japanese dolls that were really the Hong Kong/European versions.

It was during the S season that Sailor Moon discovered the "Holy Grail", which transformed her into the more powerful Super Sailormoon. This gave Bandai the opportunity to issue a new doll of Super Sailormoon. The doll itself was the same, but the costume, which included large pink lamé butterfly wings and a new tri-color skirt, was completely new. The new outfit was also sold seperately, and is listed below with the other sets of additional clothes.
A standard set of European "S" series dolls (meaning a set consisting of the Inner Senshi) was never made, so the following S series is intended to compliment the Bandai Asia R set. The packaging for these dolls borrowed the look from the Japanese S Series. These Bandai Asia dolls are easily distinguished from the Japanese dolls because they have the Senshi's name in English on the front of the package.

Instead of releasing dolls of the girls in their school outfits again, these special edition dolls have the girls wearing their "street clothes." These dolls were produced in Korea and are not of the same quality as the regular editions. The vinyl is thinner, and if you look at the faces of the dolls, you'll notice a "matte-like" finish compared to the regular dolls. The dolls in this cute series retailed for ¥1,980 yen a piece. A whole 1,000 yen less than the standard issue uniformed dolls! These tend to be extremely rare here in America and can command higher prices than the regular dolls.
For the S season, an unknown number of boxed and packaged outfits were released for the dolls. Judging from those I have, the boxed sets were very nice, with many accessories. Far above the quality of the oufits released the following year for the SuperS season. Many of these sets were fancier dresses, but the fighting outfits were available also.
As I mentioned above, it was during the S season that Sailor Moon became Super Sailor Moon. Bandai produced a new Super SM doll and also made the outfit available seperately. This deluxe boxed costume consisted of a shiny version of the dress, plus boots, gloves, a wand, the Holy Grail chalice, and a set of large pink lamé butterfly wings.
Obviously a collector's series, the top face of the box lifts up to reveal a full-length plastic window, ideal for displaying the doll. Each doll comes with a prism trading card and the usual accessories. I believe just the five Inner Senshi were available in this series. (¥3500)
Builds on the R series with characters added during the Sailor Moon S season. The box features Chibimoon plus the Outer Senshi. There are two new versions of Moon in this series, one of which is Super Sailor Moon. Late in '97, Pluto appeared in this series, however, no one's seen one of Saturn, despite the fact that she appears on the packaging. [¥980]
WARNING! - Many unofficial bootleg toys look like they belong in this series! The packaging is very similar but the Bandai logo square in the lower right corner is blank. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice that the paint work on the figures is pretty shoddy. Many bootleg 2-packs exist, so please be careful to inspect them before you buy them! ** Please note that there were authentic, licensed two packs for Neptune/Uranus and Moon/Chibi produced by Bandai Japan. The best way to tell the difference is to look for the Bandai logo in the bottom right corner. **

These are pretty interesting. The ones that I have are about 14.5 inches (37 cm) tall but I have seen some that are over 20 inches tall. They remind me of the prize toys made for amusement parks but I doubt that's their purpose. I like the fact that the details are there, for instance the earrings are different and the shoe styles are correct. Those I know to be available are: Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune. If anyone has any more info, please feel free to share it! You'll see a plush Luna in the last pic, which was not in scale with the rest of these toys. All were made by Bandai Japan.

2 Inch Capsule Series by Bandai Japan With real doll hair! These are really cute. The heads turn but that's it for poseability. They come in plastic capsules, which indicates that they're available in vending machines. There were two series of these, with five in each series. The first consisted of the Inner Senshi. (See Mercury here)Set 2, shown here, includes Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Chibi & Super Sailor Moon. |

Neptune's Mirror, Uranus' Sword and Pluto's Orb were also produced this year, however they weren't quite in scale with the other role-playing toys. The Sword and the Orb were meant to be worn as necklaces. Each was sold seperately and came with a gold charm featuring the related Outer Senshi Scout. [¥1680 each]
