Card Hero

Updated 03/09/2002

Introduction:

"Card Hero" is a role playing video game for the Nintendo Game Boy system, which encourages players to buy, trade, and collect a series of battle cards, much like the ever popular Pokemon games. (In fact, the game itself included your first pack of cards.) Card Hero is full of thinly veiled references to the Pokemon phenomena, (all in fun, of course) but it doesn't take a genius to see that Nintendo was hoping for the same type of success with this game. In the game, your character - Hiroshi, idolizes Masaru Kado, the star of a fictional TV show called "Card Hero." Hiroshi learns that he too can be like Masaru with the new Card Hero card game on sale from Nantendo. With money given to him by his grandfather, Hiroshi purchases his first cards, and the journey begins...

The game never did make it to the US, but it was a top seller in Japan for a while. In addition to those that are shown below, I've also seen plushes from a second Card Hero set. I don't know if this means there was a sequel to the game, or whether there was just a second set of plushes based on the Card Hero game. All of the following toys were made by Banpresto.

I don't have the character's names. There were a total of 5 in this set. The picture doesn't do the "bomb-king" plush justice. It has a lot of nice little details. The bomb guy is just over 6" tall. The girl is about 7 & 1/2". The last plush in the set is a spinning top.
