Chocobo Catcher Toy Goods

Updated 11/9/01

Introduction:

It all started with Final Fantasy, a series of adventure/role playing video games produced by Square. While each new sequel would star a new selection of main characters, the Chocobos have appeared consistently since the early volumes, and have even spun off into their own collection of games, like Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon and Chocobo Racing. The first Chocobo plush was part of the first Final Fantasy VII set. A later FF7 set consisted of six different Chocobos! Later chocobo catcher toys were superdeformed versions based on the spin-off games.

There were 6 plushes in this set, all of which are Chocobos. The yellow, green, blue and gold Chocobos are identical other than the different colors. The black chocobo looks a bit older and more mature. (Notice the longer bill.) The last plush is the lovable Chubby Chocobo.

There were just three in the first series. Average size is 7 inches tall. These pictures show these toys from different angles.
75476ab.jpg (38199 bytes) 1998 The second Chocobo's Dungeon set featured a chipmunk and the Black Magician, plus the yellow Chocobo sitting, reading from a spell book.
72871.jpg (38190 bytes) 1998 This Chocobo's Dungeon key chain set features solid PVC figures attached to small ball chains. These came packaged in capsules that were shaped like fat bullets, and were distributed as skill game prizes. Made by Banpresto. Complete set shown.
75515.jpg (43104 bytes) 1999 Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 DX Set - Two extra large Chocobo plushes. These are wearing little leather pouches around their necks. One has both eyes open, the other is winking.
75657.jpg (103521 bytes) 1999 Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 Keychain Set - Each of these hollow, soft vinyl figures has a metal keyring attached. The figures average about 2" tall.
76229.jpg (80294 bytes) 1999 Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 Coin Bank Set - There were actually six in the set. Five are pictured. The missing bank is another yellow Chocobo. The average size is about 3 inches, so you won't be saving very much money with these. Like the characters in the keychain set, they also appear in Chocobo Racing.
