Ojamajo Doremi
aka "Unskilled Witch Doremi"
Updated 04/06/2002
Introduction:
Another Shoujo series developed by Toei, this series follows the adventures of a collection of young witches as they learn to use their powers. To briefly summarize the series, a luckless young girl, Doremi, happens upon a magic shop and inadvertently transforms the shop's owner Majorika into a little green blob. Doremi begins training to becomes a witch in order to transform the old woman back into human form. Two friends, Aiko and Hazuki, discover Doremi trying to learn magic and also become witches in training. The three girls collectively run the magic shop, called Maho-Do.
In season two, another witch ,Onpu, joins the team, and the girls are now running a flower shop. In an odd storyline that could only occur in anime, the girls witness the birth of a baby, Hana, from a flower, and decide to raise it.
In season three, a Japanese-American transfer student, Momoko, joins the team of witches, and this year, the shop they run is a bakery.
In the Fall of 2000, I read a press release from Bandai that announced Doremi would be broadcast in the US in the year 2001. As I write this in March of 2002, I haven't seen it or heard anything new.
Banpresto has been producing catcher toys for this series since it debuted in 1999, and continues to do so in 2002. It's common to see just one or two plush sets made for a popular show, but there are new Doremi sets popping up every couple of months. I'm curious to see how long this keeps up. Perhaps this series will be the next Sailor Moon?...
To get this page started, I've listed one of the most recent sets. I will be adding images of the older sets as soon as I photograph them. I have around 50 Doremi plushes in my collection.

Standing over 16 inches tall, this Doremi plush is much larger than the average DX catcher toy. This single plush was available in this size, and is not part of a larger set. Made in 2001. |
