Gamera

Updated 5/11/2002

Introduction:

Gamera is yet another giant monster from Japanese cinema. A number of Gamera films were produced in the 1960's, and three new films have been produced since the mid-1990's, each one better than the last. Gamera is a giant turtle, and I believe the earlier movies were produced for a younger audience, but the recent films have been quite violent and great fun. All of the following toys were made by Banpresto, and as far as I'm aware, there have only been two plush Gamera sets so far.

The second Gamera set followed the release of the second Gamera: Guardian of the Universe film. There were 3 in the set, including Gamera (identical to the standing Gamera from the first set, but with green skin instead of brown), Gyaos and Legion, the villain from the Gamera 2 film. These plushes are much larger than the earlier ones. Gyaos is 7 inches tall and 8 inches wide. The eyes are plush, not plastic.
