UFO Catcher Toy Machines
This section would not be possible if it wasn't for Darla, a kind and generous friend who resides with her family in Japan, and has been a great source of information, help & inspiration with many of my little collections. Thanks, Darla! You're the best!
This Sega machine is called a "New UFO Catcher", and it features a UFO-shaped claw, which is where the name "UFO Catcher Toys" comes from. Click on the thumbnails to see larger images. This particular machine was found in a video store.
Here is one of Banpresto's Keychain machines, called a "Convenicatcher." The keychain prizes are hanging on metal rods. See the purple arm in the bottom left corner inside the machine? The arm has a claw on the end, and when the player positions the arm, it extends and the claw closes. The arm automatically returns to it's position at the bottom and opens the claw. The prize must fall through the hole at the bottom for you to win it.

The words and scans are © Kane, aka spooky@voicenet.com, who freely admits he spends way too much time thinking about toys. The toys shown are © Banpresto, Inc., a subsidiary of Bandai, Inc. This site is not endorsed or affiliated with Banpresto, it is just a side project that I enjoy working on. Before you email me to ask, NO, I am not selling these toys. Since you are still reading this, I'll throw in an extra scan of a catcher toy of Ginger Spice, formerly of the Spice Girls. Cheers.
